North Korea

North Korea is probably the biggest surprise team to qualify for the 2010 World Cup Finals.  The North Korea team has failed to qualify for a World Cup since 1966 when it made it all the way to the top eight.  North Korea is ready to continue surprising soccer fans worldwide.

The biggest asset for the North Korean squad is there back line.  In the 16 qualifying games that they participated in, the defenders managed to let only 7 goals go by.  The team also has some very good counter attacking skills which they show off every game.

As good as their back line is, the rest of the North Korean team is lacking.  The team fails to attack.  It is hard to win games when you cannot score goals.  The team also rarely plays outside of the Asian continent.  This lack of international experience is a great disadvantage to this team.

Most of the team plays domestically which adds to their lack of foreign experience.  Hong Jong-Yo plays in Russia and is the brains behind the teams counter attacking strategy.  Also look for Jong Tae-Se who plays for Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale club.  Tae-Se is North Korea’s best chance for making a goal. Also, watch the goalkeeper, Ri Myong-Guk, for his agility and great saves.

The North Korean’s are not expected to make it out of the Group Stage, but they have already surprised many by qualifying for the event.  Brazil is expected to dominate North Korea, so look out for the games against the Ivory Coast and Portugal.
