Ivory Coast
The Ivory Coast is the best team on the African continent. They are expected to go further than any other African team. The Ivory Coast has only been to the World Cup once before, which was back in 2006. The early upset in the last World Cup left them wanting more, and will be to their advantage for this go around. The Ivory Coast managed to win all of their qualifying matches.
The Ivory Coast’s greatest strength is their attackers. The whole front of the team is stacked with well-respected shooters that play in respectable clubs. If the ball is kept up front, the firepower of the front line could be lethal.
The team lacks unity, which is their biggest weakness. The team has a lot of players that want to be stars rather than team players. Players acting independently create confusion on the field and could cause the Ivory Coast to lose.
Look out for Didier Drogba, as he is a very good striker and very well respected throughout Africa. Salomon Kalou has great speed, but can also be very arrogant at times. Gervinho is the new player on the team, but he seems like he will do great things for the squad. Gervinho is smaller, but his small body makes him able to turn on a dime.
The Ivory Coast team definitely has a chance to make it to the Knockout round. It would be a tall order to beat Brazil, which is the team they will have to focus on after taking out North Korea and Portugal. The game to watch is the Ivory Coast versus Portugal.
