Honduras

Honduras has not qualified for the World Cup since 1982, but despite this fact, do not count this team out.  The Hondurans have not won many large titles, but they have remained competitive. The World Cup finals are a great honor for Honduras and it is time for them to show that they can compete against World Cup veterans.

Having players from larger clubs on the front lines adds great strength to the Honduras team.  Because of the speed of the front line, Honduras is well known for their counter attacks.

The Honduras team’s greatest weakness is definitely defense.  Their defense is less experienced and plays for smaller soccer clubs.  The team is susceptible to attacks from opposing teams because of this weakness in the defense. The goalkeeper, Noel Valladares, has been greatly criticized for repeated mistakes.

Watch out for Honduran soccer’s legendary Carios Pavon.  Despite being 37 years old, this striker is still a great asset to the team. Another younger striker to look for is Carlos Costly.  Costly was essential in helping his team qualify for the World Cup.  Also look for Amado Guevara in the midfield.  His skill and leadership will be essential for Honduras to come out on top.

Honduras is not expected to score against the burly Spain team, so its other games in the group stages will be especially important.  The first game against Chile should prove to be a worthy match and an entertaining game.  The third game against Switzerland will not be a freebie, so Honduras will have to play hard to make it to the next stage.
