Chile
Chile does not have a big and legendary team like much of the rest of South America, but they have managed to qualify for World Cup finals. The Chileans are ready to play since they have not qualified for the World Cup since France hosted it twelve years ago.
The Chilean team has a very powerful offence. If they can keep up the pressure on their front and attack, then it will be very advantageous for them. The current team is very confident, which helps with the cohesiveness of the players on the field.
The Chilean team’s greatest weakness is their defense. Their limited player height damages their aerial play ability. The backline tends to let get things get through them that should be stopped. Traditionally Chile does not play well away from home, so the World Cup matches may be difficult for them.
Alexis Sanchez, nick named “The Wonder boy,” is a young player that is expected to do great things for this team. He lacks some experience, but this right-winger is explosive. On a side note, having pinpoint accuracy made Humberto Suazo the team’s top scorer during the World Cup qualifying rounds. Matias Fernandez is another front line player to watch for. He was voted the Best South American Player in 2006.
The Chilean team is not expected to take Spain in the group stages. If Chile can come out on top against a tough Honduras team, then they should have a really good chance against Switzerland. The games against Honduras and Switzerland should be very entertaining to see who comes out on top among these two under dogs.
