Cameroon
Cameroon struggled to qualify for the 2010 World Cup Finals, but impressed everyone by winning their last four qualifying matches. Cameroon is the highest ranked African Nation in the FIFA standings. The Cameroon team’s main goal is to make it out of the Group Stage.
Cameroon strengths are its attackers and in its midfield. The Cameroon team has the best attacker in all of African soccer. The midfield is really where Cameroon controls the ball and makes things happen to win games.
The Cameroon’s defense is a growing weakness on their team. The defense does not lack talent, but they are aging and slowing down. It will be hard for the defense to keep up with the other teams in their Group offences full of young players.
The player to watch is definitely Samuel Eto’o. Eto’o has won the African Player of the Year three times already and is a crowd favorite. He is fast, and is ready to score some serious goals. Out of the midfield talent, watch out for Alexandre Song. Song has great ball control and long-range precision. The coach, Frenchman Paul Le Guen, has really seemed to turn the team around as well. Cameroon seemed to have a power struggle under their old coach Otto Pfister, but this has all been resolved with the change.
Cameroon’s best chances for making it to the Knock Out stage are by beating Denmark and Japan. Both these teams should be worthy competitors. Cameroon has the ability to score the points to move out of the group stage. Hopefully the coach Paul Le Guen will be able to lead Cameroon to some wins.
