Arsenal vs. New Castle United in English Premier League soccer
New Castle United visits Arsenal with a chance to climb in to the top four in the Premier League standings. Last week, Arsenal scored a 4-0 win against New Castle in Carling Cup action. This is their first meeting this season in the EPL. New Castle sits in seventh place but isn’t far behind a few teams in front of them. Arsenal is tied for second place with Manchester United but has the edge in wins.
Arsenal has been on a roll since losing to Chelsea, winning three straight EPL matches. That includes a 3-0 win over Manchester City, who had been one of the toughest teams to score on in league action. Goalie Lukasz Fabianski has been stellar since taking over. He has won his last five starts overall and has given up just one goal during the three game EPL winning streak. On offense, Arsenal is attacking better than ever. Samir Nasri has been a star, scoring four goals on the season and leading the attack.
For New Castle, things haven’t been as easy. Goalie Tim Krul has been okay but not great since taking over. Kevin Nolan and Andrew Carroll lead the United attack, but the rest of the team has not been as strong at attacking the net. The offense came alive against Sunderland in their last match by scoring five goals. They have won two straight in the EPL overall. They have scored 19 goals in 10 games on the season so far.
New Castle United was in the Championship League last year, so they did not mean Arsenal in league competition. They would like to get rid of the taste of last week’s 4-0 loss in Carling Cup action. Arsenal is a tough team, especially at home. Winning won’t be easy, but if New Castle continues to show life on offense they could pull an upset.
