World Cup Preview: Denmark vs. Japan
Denmark and Japan will play against each other on the 24th of June in Group E of the 2010 World Cup.
Denmark, World Cup betting favorite team, will need to take advantage of this game, as it could be a key in their advancement to the next round. Denmark will of course be the overwhelming favorites in this match, but cannot afford to let up as they face a fairly weak team from Japan. A loss here could fiddle with their chances to move on, even if they manage to win their previous game against Cameroon.
Denmark has a far superior offense and defense to Japan. In terms of matchups this is probably the 2nd most difficult matchup for Japan to take on after the Netherlands. While Cameroon has a defense with holes in it, Denmark does not have the same type of vulnerability to weaker teams.
Although Denmark’s offensive attack is far superior to Japan’s, it still is by no means dominant. They may not have a defensive vulnerability to poor teams, but they also do not have an offensive dominance that can put poor teams away. This may be the area where Japan can take advantage. Although they do not have a great defense, they may have an opportunity to buckle down and turn this into a grinding, low scoring match.
Japan’s greatest hope will be keeping this a low scoring match. If they can do that they have an outside chance of sneaking out a win against Denmark. Denmark remains the overwhelming favorite of this game however and will be predicted by most to walk away with a victory in this match.
