2010 FIFA World Cup Preview of Netherlands vs. Japan
On the 19th of June in Group E of the 2010 World Cup, Netherlands and Japan will play their match. Although decided before the two teams have taken the field, this matchup seems to be all.
When you are playing against the best teams in the world, it is hard to say that an opponent will be a pushover, but Japan may be just that in comparison to the Netherlands.
In the game, the Dutch have one of the best offenses and defenses, and are considered to be an elite contender to win the entire tournament. In the World Cup, Japan meanwhile was a team that is towards the bottom tier of teams.
Japan has never shown an ability to beat the teams that are supposedly stronger than they are, even though Japan is known for its ability to beat the weaker teams in the world. As Japan face such an elite team, this will be tough for them. One thing that Japan does have going for them is the absence of a clear-cut superstar on the Dutch team. They do not seem to have one player to take over a game, even though they have strengths everywhere. This means that Japan may not exactly be overwhelmed with any one player on the Netherlands.
That being said, to imagine a scenario where Japan pulls out a win in this one is difficult one. They will probably need to look elsewhere if they want to steal a win before returning home and there is simply too much going against them at this time.
