Arsenal: Looking Back and Looking Forward
After five years of waiting, fans of the Arsenal football club are hungry for another title. Now, as the club is nearly mathematically excluded from a title this year, it is time to review the season’s performance and to attempt to identify what exactly it is that continually trips this club up.
Many fans are beginning to question the coach’s (Arsene Wenger) philosophy. He believes that a solid football team can built by bringing untested and younger players into the organization. However, the last five seasons seem to prove that a team needs a solid foundation of experience. Fans desire a mix of young players with battle tested veterans alongside them.
There is an abundance of frustration with the goalkeeping on Arsenal’s squad. It seems that the choice between the current goalkeeper, Manuel Almunia and his back up, Lukasz Fabianski puts the team in a position without a strong player in the most important position on the field. Perhaps Wenger should focus on this void before going aggressively after talented players elsewhere on the field.
Arsene has a good reputation, and good results, but those who pay for merchandise and seats in the team’s shiny new stadium are not satisfied with a number 3 rank in the Premier League. It is time for a change.
